Jamestown Exposition Photographs  -  Brown & Schaffer


The site for the Jamestown Exposition was selected at Sewell's Point, 7 miles north of Norfolk.  Afterwards it became Norfolk Naval Station.   exhibits.  The Expostion had it's share of headaches with much of the facility not completed on opening day.  

AT LEFT:  The Great Pier constructed for the Jamestown Exposition.  Fleet units can be seen at anchor to the east with the fleet landing on the west wall of the west pier.


Brown & Schaffer #89
In the background of photo #89 can be seen the Administration Building (shown above and left) of the exposition.  This was one of the centers of the exposition and contained the Auditorium in the center portion of the building.  On the pier can be seen Jamestown Exposition line-handlers dressed in traditional costume helping the sailors ashore.

Brown & Schaffer photograph #89 shows a Battallion disembarking at the Jamestown Exposition at the west wall.  Four steamers can be seen lined up disembarking sailors in there dress blue uniforms.  This might have been the required uniform to go ashore, or it may have been for a parade or event at the Exposition that showcased the fleet.
