This
is an interesting set
of cards between a young naval officer and the daughter of LCDR
Phelps, an instructor at the Naval Academy at Annapolis. I
have placed cards that were sent during the Fleet
cruise with the individual ports from which they were sent.
The cards below are show in the order in which she received
them, generally from before the cruise.
The card immediately following the image is the back of
the card. Some
of the highlights of this group are the card from Venice from
July, 1903, the two cards from Japan in 1906, Mt Etna, 1906,
and the Chinese execution of 1906. The young officer to
the left is unidentified. My best guess is that it is
F. J. Cleary, onboard his ship. Many of the cards sent
by him were from the academy and were early Muller cards of the
fleet.
