The visit to Monterey included a variety of social engagements with a balance of sports and activities for the crewmembers of the ships.  The official program, at left, describes a visit from the Governor, a social ball and Duarte Hall, boat races and baseball games.

As First Squadron left of Santa Cruz, Mayor Jack took two-hundred officers on the 17 mile drive towards Carmel.  In the evening the Hotel Del  Monte (now the Naval Postgraduate School) was host to a grand ball.  Later that evening the fleet provided illuminations with their search lights.

the card to the left shows the Tennessee, Washington, and California in March 1908, "expect the fleet May 1st".  The second card shows the fleet's arrival in Monterey Bay.  Both photographs were taken and developed into postcards that were made available while the fleet was visiting.
