This
a great card of the collection. A Fanjoy
card issued to commorate the arrival of the fleet
that shows the USS Connecticut, Van's ship. It
was canceled on April 16, 1908, six days after their
arrival, and was mailed to his Mother back in Benton,
Kentucky. "From your son sailing on the blue
seas."

This group of cards of Los
Angeles were mailed to Van from fiends he met during his visit.
Apparently, Van went by his middle name Buren. "Would
be please to have you call at 1235 E "Q"Street if you
can, Clint Blahoney, Los Angeles, Cal."

Visiting
Santa Cruz allowed sailors to see the Giant Redwood
Trees and to visit the beach Hotels, Casino, and Bathing
Pavillion.

At
the foot of Market Street, near fleet landing, is the
Ferry Building. The Fleet Parade marched down
Market Street.
|

The
visit to San Franciso included going to the beach, visiting
the city, and reviewing damage from the earthquake of
1906.
