Seagoing Series


The  cards at left are from the 'Seagoing Series' published by The Middlesex Company.  They were issued and used during the time of the fleet's cruise.

Card 1:  Flying a "homeward-bound pennant"

Card 2:  "Uncle Sam's personnaly guided tour of the world." "That's going some"

Card 3:  After that 25-year retirement"  "The hens and I will lay-too at that sea-going chicken ranch."

Card 4:  "True pipe stories" "Truth is stranger than fiction"; in the Navy.

This group of cards show random scenes in Egypt.  Since less that 100 sailor per ship were allowed ashore to the overland trip to the pyramids, many had just a day of liberty in Cairo.  

At right is a ticket stub from the Esbekieth Gardens in Cairo.  The price of admisssion, written on the back was a nichel.

I Invite My Children to Come Home

There were three of these cards in the collection.  They were published for the Jamestown Exposition and invited people from all over the states to come home n 1907 to Jamestown.  The fleet shown in the background.

Italy    The Connecticut was one of the ships that responded to the earthquake in Italy.  The cards above show scenes from in and around Naples, Capri, and Mount Vesuvio.

The single card at left is the only card Wilbur brought home from France.  The card is from Marseille, an imagine of Notre Dame.

This group of cards is from Wilbur's visit to Turkey.  The cards are from Ephese and Symrna showing ancient ruins.
