The fleet in Auckland

Richard got at least one day ashore in Auckland and seems to have had a chance to get out and see the sites.  At right, the Wakatare, a 1500 passenger excursion vessel that was in the harbor during the fleet visit and photographed by Richard.

The fleet in Auckland Harbor was quite a site.  At left are people gathering to view the fleet in the harbor from an optimal viewing point.  

Richard must have taken the opportunity to find this location.  In the foreground, a young lady by herself might have been the subject of the photograph.

The Auckland trams were evidential the way to travel around the city.

The photographs he took in downtown Auckland include these two.  At left the tramway going through the welcome arch. At right a group standing in front of the tram. 

At left is a nice photograph of the "Hail Columbia building, names for the elaborate decorations including images of King George and Theodore Roosevelt.

The building was decorated on the outside and the inside with flags and bunting for the American fleet.

These two photographs are from unknown locations in New Zealand.  While in port at Auckland there were many excursions to the countryside to visit the sites of the country.  These show a group of sailors that might have gone to a mining site and were able to go into the mine during their tour.
