SF_foldout.jpg

SF-foldout_out.jpg

This card above shows the intersection of market and post street with a foldout containing the sixteen battleships of the Great White Fleet.  Below are two more cards that were modified in this manner for the Fleet's visit.  The above card was canceled in May 1908 in San Francisco.

At Right:  Cliff Road and Beach from the Cliff House, and, the Fairmont Hotel.

With two sailors holding up the world, this card has an embroidered battleship and the map of the Americas.  The verse below reads, "From the Atlantic to the Pacific our ships they sailed away, Homage to your foreign neighbors and honors to pay"

This is a studio photo postcard of a sailor from the Fleet.  In 1908 it was still a pretty big deal to be sitting behind the wheel of an automobile.  The sign in the background reads "23 miles to SF"  Postmarked May 1908

The Hibernia Savings and Loan of San Francisco.  The card depicts the bank decorated for the fleet visit and states across the bottom, "Fleet Souvenir May 6, 1908"
