The
parade in downtown San Francisco was one of the biggest
events since the end of the Civil War. Over 8,000
blue jackets participated in an event involving over
14,000 marchers including the Marines and Army. The
parade proceded up Market Street from the Ferry Building
to Van Ness Avenue, over to Washington Street,
and down Washington Street to return to the Ferry Building.
Over 500,000 people observed the parade.
