The
above cards show the fleet steaming in Puget
Sound and Anchoring in Commencement
Bay.
|

|
On
Wednesday, May 27th the fleet got back to business sending
the Illinois, Kearsarge, and Minnesota to the shipyard
at Bremerton, and on the 28th, the Connecticut, Kansas,
Vermont, and Louisiana sailed for San Francisco where
the Missouri and already been ordered. The Georgia,
New Jersey, Rhode Island, and Virginia remained and
sailed for Tacoma for a three day visit.

cards of the fleet were available to purchase in Tacoma
during the fleet's visit.

The upper card
was mailed
from Tacoma, and the lower card was sold from a drug
store in nearby Puyallup, Washington.

The
third card in this group is part of the
H. H. Stratton series showing the fleet
parade in Tacoma.

The arrival of
the fleet was a cause for celebration and the city of
Tacoma erected an arch on Pacific Street to welcome
the sailors. This cards is from the photographs
of Brown
& Schaffer.
