 Cards from the Northwest

Mack "29 - 0 - 52"

At this point folks at home must have started to wonder, or even joke about the code between Ben and Nellie.  Mack, who must be a relative of Nellie's now writes Ben "29 - 0 - 52".

It is not stated, but the photo of Morris HIgh School in New York may have been Ben or Nellie's high school.

Brooklyn June 19, 1908

Bremerton July 3, 1908

Three cards received in San Franciso between June 23rd and July 6th.

Who is ACW?  Now it becomes confusing because Ben gets three cards from ACW.  The photo of the "Bay State Bell" has ACW written on the diploma, and the women of  "innocence" is also labeled ACW.  Is this another girlfriend?

Two more great cards from Hawaii.  Ben has dropped all use of the code by the time and provides only an invite of "Come take a trip in my airship" and a light hearted joke regarding is attraction to the "blonde in the cutie".   Both cards are nicely canceled from Honolulu.

A Card from a Friend in Sydney

This is a nice card from J. Peck Thiriaul who lived along the coast and met Ben during his visit.  "A token o frememberance from the friends you met at the Band in the Sydney Domain.  We were sorry we could not get on the Rhode Island.  We tried but the battleship was not open to public.  Trusting you will have a good time in Melbourne & a safe return home"

August 29, 1909

"A lonely place to be"

Albany, Australia

Ben had been given this card while in Melborne and had it available to mail to Nellie when he reached Albany.  Apparently it was not his favorite place, "Sept -13-08,  Dear Nell:  Reached this port on Friday.  Its a lonely place to be.  Going to take in the "Sights" tomorrow.  Ben"
