The Fleet in San Francisco Bay

Admiral-Deweys-Ship.jpg

The fleet arrived in San Francisco through the Golden Gate with great ceremony.  The review of the Secretary of the Navy included Admiral Dewey on a separate ship watching the fleet pass.  This group of photographs show the fleet going to anchor and Admiral Dewey's ship.  They were photographed by a private citizen probably from one of the many tourist boats.

On May 6th the Fleet moved to the City's anchorage area.  Admiral Evan's fleet joined by the Nebraska and Wisconsin proceeded from their anchorages to the anchorage grounds in San Francisco Harbor shown at left.  The Fleet was joined by the Pacific fleet, Admiral Dayton's division of four cruisers, Admiral Sebree's division of four cruisers, and Admiral Swinburne's flagship the Charleston.
